Friendly Goats –

Our four friendly Pygmy goats are called Wally,  Casper, Billy and Beau. They love being brushed by adults and chidren alike!

Hand Feed The Guinea Pigs –

The guinea pigs are brought down for you to interact with at the cottage every afternoon. Children can delight in hand feeding the guinea pigs food such as celery and parsley that we grow at the farm. * They are fragile animals so they are always kept in a secure container for interactions.

We have 2 mini cows called Matilda and Rosie. We offer a hands on feeding experience in the afternoon where you can get up close and meet our beautiful cows. We provide hay the cubes so you can enjoy feeding the cows safely through the fence.

Chickens –

Children really enjoy collecting farm fresh eggs and learning all about chicken care.

Collect Your Own Eggs –

Collect farm fresh chicken or duck eggs daily.  Use the basket provided and collect the warm eggs direct from the coop to cook for breakfast!

Hand feed the chickens and take photos with the family! There is a seat in the ‘Chick Inn’ so you can sit and relax while watching the happy chickens scratching around in their outdoor area. We sometimes even hatch eggs and have chicks at the farm!

Hand Feed The Ducks –

Enjoy hand feeding the ducks in the orchard every day with food we provide. They love to eat from your hand!

DISCLAIMER – We are a farm, so normal farm sounds, smells and dirt can be expected!

* We do not welcome dogs or other pets etc. to join you at the farm stay as we need to ensure the safety of our own animals.

* We suggest you bring closed in shoes (gumboots or old trainers) to protect your feet and bring old clothes for when you are up close and personal with farm animals. We do supply a small range of children’s gumboots that you may borrow if you forget to pack some.

Of course you can also expect sounds like clucking, mooing, baa-ing and cock-a-doodle dooing! However, we do have double glazing as a bonus in the cottage to block out sounds.

* Children MUST be supervised at ALL times in the paddocks and animals enclosures. This is to keep everyone safe. IF YOU BOOK WITH US – YOU MUST ADHERE TO THIS.

* Children under 13 years must not use the outdoor baths. This is primarily for safety. Also 99% of the farm experience is aimed at enjoyment for children. This is just for you…and you deserve a long hot bath without interruption to relax!

* On occasion there may be high winds or fire bans and the firepit cannot be lit.

* In colder weather egg production may be low and therefore farm eggs for breakfast may not be as plentiful. This is a normal process with chickens as they concentrate on making new feathers after moulting, rather than laying eggs.

* We are unable to allow you to invite day visitors to join you at the farm due to insurance and septic limitations. If your booking contains less than 7 guests you can add extra guests to the booking, up to a limit of 7 guests (including infants under 2 years). They must fill in a waiver and be registered to join the original booking. The 7th person will be on a pop up bed, so it is suitable for children. (an addition charge will apply per person, per night to add additional guests. Contact us for inquiries).

Read one of our many reviews.

I think the words ‘super host’ are used too liberally but I can honestly say from staying in air B and Bs in 5 continents around the world, Mike and Lydia, are by far the best hosts I’ve experienced. Fig Tree Farm Cottage is a beautifully designed, high specification, thoroughly clean, 3 bedroom house with a fantastic outlook. Fresh breakfast is provided daily by Lydia. The German rye bread was enjoyed by both our young children. The daily cuddles with the guinea pigs and brushing of the goats was a real highlight, as was the creek at the end of the acreage. We have already booked in for another week.
