The Farm Animals –

We have one Boer goat, four Pygmy goats, two Dorper sheep, two mini cows, six ducks, twenty one chickens, one rooster and four guinea pigs. The animals have been hand raised so they love interaction with people!

Friendly Goats –

Our four friendly Pygmy goats are called Wally (pictured) Casper, Billy and Beau. They love being brushed by adults and chidren alike!

Hand Feed The Guinea Pigs –

The guinea pigs are brought down for you to interact with at the cottage every afternoon. Children can delight in hand feeding the guinea pigs food such as celery and parsley that we grow at the farm. * They are fragile animals so they are always kept in a secure container for interactions.

Miniature Cows –

Note – Interaction with the cows is not always available. Sometimes they have been moved to pasture not accessible by guests. Please contact us to check availibility, if required, before booking.

We have 2 mini cows called Matilda and Rosie. We offer a hands on feeding experience in the afternoon where you can get up close and meet our beautiful cows. We provide hay the cubes so you can enjoy feeding the cows safely through the fence.

Chickens –

Children really enjoy collecting farm fresh eggs and learning all about chicken care.

Collect Your Own Eggs –

Collect farm fresh chicken or duck eggs daily.  Use the basket provided and collect the warm eggs direct from the coop to cook for breakfast!

Hand feed the chickens and take photos with the family! There is a seat in the ‘Chick Inn’ so you can sit and relax while watching the happy chickens scratching around in their outdoor area. We sometimes even hatch eggs and have chicks at the farm!

Hand Feed The Ducks –

Enjoy hand feeding the ducks in the orchard every day with food we provide. They love to eat from your hand!

DISCLAIMER – We are a farm, so normal farm sounds, smells and dirt can be expected!

* We suggest you bring closed in shoes (gumboots or old trainers) to protect your feet and bring old clothes for when you are up close and personal with farm animals. We do supply a small range of children’s gumboots that you may borrow if you forget to pack some.

Of course you can also expect sounds like clucking, mooing, baa-ing and cock-a-doodle dooing! However, we do have double glazing as a bonus in the cottage to block out sounds.

* Children MUST be supervised at ALL times in the paddocks and animals enclosures. This is to keep everyone safe. IF YOU BOOK WITH US – YOU MUST ADHERE TO THIS.

* On occasion there may be high winds or fire bans and the firepit cannot be lit.

* In colder weather egg production may be low and therefore farm eggs for breakfast may not be as plentiful. This is a normal process with chickens as they concentrate on making new feathers after moulting, rather than laying eggs.

* We are unable to allow you to invite day visitors to join you at the farm due to insurance and septic limitations. If your booking contains less than 7 guests you can add extra guests to the booking, up to a limit of 7 guests (including infants under 2 years). They must fill in a waiver and be registered to join the original booking. The 7th person will be on a pop up bed, so it is suitable for children. (an addition charge will apply per person, per night to add additional guests. Contact us for inquiries).

Breakfast Choices

* photo is indicitive of choices that may be available for you to choose from. Not all options pictured are available as standard.

Explore the seasonal river which is located at the bottom of the property. We provide a box of toys to spark imaginative outdoor play for chidren. *Adult supervsion necessary for water safety.

Accessibility –

The access to the cottage entrance is via a ramp with a gentle incline. If necessary the cottage itself can be accessed via a removable ramp by average sized wheelchairs. We can provide a shower chair (with handles and a back) and removable toilet support rails to aid getting on and off the toilet. We have a muti level single sturdy chair that can be added to the lounge room for accessible seating to watch TV, especially if getting up off a couch proves difficult.  The shower in the family bathroom has no door, so it can be rolled into, and we can provide a transferable shower chair with an open side. However, the sink is not ‘roll under’, the toilet can only be accessed if you can stand to transfer and we do not have sufficient room for a hoist.

The farm itself is mainly flat and the grass is kept short so a wheelchair or walker can be easily pushed over the grass. Some of the animal paddocks can be accessed by wheelchair and a wheelchair can be pushed up, or driven up, to the fencelines to see the animals grazing.

Games, Toys and Fresh Air –

Play one of the many outdoor games provided like swing tennis or netball. Enjoy a round of mini golf on our 5 hole course! Lots of board games like Yahzee, Monopoly, Puzzles, Card games etc. are provided.  Children’s toys are also provided in the cottage like cars, dinosaurs, a tea set, a train set, dolls and much more to entertain the children for hours.

Outdoor Play Kitchen –

The patio play kitchen is a hit with young children! It is conveniently located out of the sun on the patio. Play food and water can be used in imaginative play. Adults can supervise children playing while enjoying the views and relaxing on the patio with a drink!

The Fire Pit –

As dusk approaches – light the fire pit and watch their delight as you teach your children how to make s’mores over the open firepit. It is also the perfect place to enjoy a bottle of wine when couples are enjoying a romantic getaway. It is the perfect place to make memories together!

* We supply wood, kindling and fire starters, for your convenience!

NOTE: There may be occasions when the firepit cannot be used due to high winds or fire bans.

Read one of our many reviews.

I think the words ‘super host’ are used too liberally but I can honestly say from staying in air B and Bs in 5 continents around the world, Mike and Lydia, are by far the best hosts I’ve experienced. Fig Tree Farm Cottage is a beautifully designed, high specification, thoroughly clean, 3 bedroom house with a fantastic outlook. Fresh breakfast is provided daily by Lydia. The German rye bread was enjoyed by both our young children. The daily cuddles with the guinea pigs and brushing of the goats was a real highlight, as was the creek at the end of the acreage. We have already booked in for another week.
